There are Two Aspects of Verbally Sharing the Message of Jesus

They are:

Your Personal Story

(Your Testimony of what God continues to do in areas of your life)

and

The Jesus Story -God’s Way

(the gospel presentation)

 These two aspects constitute :

Step 3
Direct the Conversation to Spiritual Matters
Step 4
Discuss the Gospel

What is Your Story ?

Your Story a short narrative of how a relationship with Jesus has transformed a specific area of your life.

It is more than your personal testimony. It does not deals with the mechanics of how you became a Christian, but a specific fleshly characteristic of your life that has been transformed through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

The purpose of Your Journey is not to explain how to become a Christian, but to find a fleshy trait that a Non-Christian struggles with and share how a relationship with Jesus has changed that part of your life and can change their life.

What is an Example ?

Before I entered a relationship with Jesus, I had a horrible temper. Anything would set me off. I remember one time that a friend of mine said something behind my back. So, I found them and let them have the full fiery of my wrath. If people had not been there to calm me down, I would have torn him to pieces. Now that I have relationship with Jesus, my temper is under control. Oh, don’t get me wrong. I still get mad at people and things. But, I don’t blow up anymore. I remember just the other day someone was talking behind my back and it didn’t even affect me. Had I not come to Jesus, I would probably be in jail for murder right now.

What are the Parts of the Your Story Presentation ?

Using the example above you can see the 6 points of the Your Story Presentation:

1. A Statement of  Your Pre-Christian Condition “Before I entered a relationship with Jesus”

2. A Statement of a Fleshly Trait  “I had a horrible temper”

3. An Illustration of the Trait in Your Life  “I remember one time that a friend . . .  and let them have the full fiery of my wrath.”

4. A Statement of Your Christian Experience  “Now that I have a relationship with Jesus . . .”

5. A Statement of a Spiritual Transformation  “. . . my temper is under control”

6. An Illustration of the Transformation in Your Life  “I remember just the other day someone was talking behind my back”

Use the Your Story Worksheet to develop your own “stories” that you can share with  non-believers.

This can be adapted to use with the Satisfaction Model or the Jesus Challenge Method in the following way:

Make the following statement or something similar:

I have found that my relationship with Jesus enables me to have satisfaction even when life is crashing down.

  • Before I became a follower of Jesus, I no satisfaction in life . . .  (share an area of your life where you lacked fulfillment and peace and an illustration that expresses this in your life)
  • Then I realized in a relationship with Jesus I could find the satisfaction that I was looking for.
  • I found that in a relationship with Jesus I could experience satisfaction even through my greatest difficulties.
  • Now that I am a follower of Jesus Christ I have found complete satisfaction in Him . . . (share how a relationship with Jesus has fulfilled the area where you lacked peace and an illustration that expresses this in your life. Be honest about your continued struggles, and the importance of God’s grace and forgiveness in the areas that you shared. Express that when someone comes to Jesus they still have struggles, but they are at peace in the midst of their difficulties)

Then ask, Has there ever been a point in your life when you entered into this kind of relationship with Jesus and found this kind of satisfaction?

Jesus Challenge: Make the following or similar statement:

Since I have discovered who Jesus is and what he has done for me He has transformed my life.

  • Before I became a follower of Jesus, I had no __________ (peace, assurance, etc) in life . . .  (share an area of your life where you lacked fulfillment and peace and an illustration that expresses this in your life)
  • Then I discovered who Jesus is and what he came to do. I entered into a relationship with Him and found the ______ (peace, assurance, etc) that I was looking for.
  • I found that in a relationship with Jesus I could experience _______ (peace, assurance, etc)  even through my greatest difficulties.
  • Now that I am a follower of Jesus Christ I have found complete ______ (peace, assurance, etc) in Him . .
